Synopsis

In his latest film, "A House in Jerusalem," Palestinian director Muayad Alayan has transformed one of Jerusalem's oldest and most beautiful homes into a dramatic character. He achieves this not only by using the house as a setting for a story where reality intertwines with fantasy—built upon the narrative of the Nakba—but by delving deep into the concept of the house itself as a living expression of memory. Through a cleverly crafted screenplay narrated by two young girls—one Palestinian from the time of the Nakba and the other a prospective settler in the new millennium—Alayan showcases cinematic professionalism that signals an exceptional Palestinian director. It genuinely makes us wonder: What if houses could speak?
